dLab, LGTI sign MOU to enhance data use in Tanzanian Local Government Authorities

August 26,2021  – Tanzania Data Lab (dLab) and the Local Government Training Institute (LGTI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on August 12,2021 to collaborate in enhancing data use and management in Local Government Authorities (LGAs) in Tanzania.  Through this partnership, dLab and LGTI seeks to strengthen data-driven leadership by creating a data-driven leadership curriculum. The course aims at enabling decision makers to lead change that is informed and underpinned by data. 

“We are excited to form this partnership with LGTI. This partnership demonstrates dLab’s commitment to strengthen data ecosystems and data usage in innovation, policy and decision making for economic growth, health and gender in Tanzania,” said dLab’s Executive Director Stephen Chacha. 

Speaking at the event, LGTI’s Rector Dr Martin M Madale said this is a great step towards a future where the value of data is being appreciated through informed decisions, policies and interventions.. The purpose of this partnership is to enhance data skills of Local Government employees and leaders to manage and use data for evidence-based planning and decision to address community problems and also support private sector development.

dLab and LGTI have been working in partnership since January 2021 to support development of the data  curriculum for sub-national leaders. The two partners will continue in this collaboration to facilitate change through the use of data.
